Volunteers are often the core of many vocational educational programs. The role of the volunteer can be as simple as volunteering to transport youth to and from an event, or volunteers with appropriate training can be utilized to coach and mentor youth in complex educational subject areas. Regardless of the volunteers' roles, their impact on the educational mission of an organization can be enormous.
Why should I volunteer?
“When you volunteer you give part of your self your time, energy, skill and feelings. You give to your family, friends, to your neighbors, to your community. Sometimes you are giving to people you don’t know, to people thousands of miles away ” - Volunteer Canada
Taken from the National FFA Alumni site:
How will you benefit from becoming a volunteer for your local
agricultural education program?
As a volunteer you can:
· Become active in a youth’s education.
· Assist teachers and staff during classroom activities and outside activities.
· Share your talents and knowledge with the students.
· Gain more knowledge about the school and the education it provides.
· Provide Supervised Agricultural Experience opportunities.
· Chaperone field trips.
· Gain additional work experience through volunteerism.
· Contribute to the success of the local program/FFA chapter.
Personally I volunteer at Camp Oswegatchie and the FFA Alumni as a simple means of giving back! I truly believe in the future of farming and of the FFA organization. I think if you are reading this you probably do too. Why not take a minute and think of all you (or your children) have gained while a member. For each of us it is personal and sometimes profound what the blue jacket stands for. Why not take those feelings and do something constructive for the next wave of blue jackets? We are always looking for new members, volunteers and especially donations to assist the next generation of agriculture students. Throw away your excuses and dig out that check book, fill out the membership form and get to work creating memories and experiences for the next generation of FFA members.
It is time YOU give back to those that have given you so much!
To begin your volunteer experience contact your local FFA chapter, the officers listed on the contacts page on the site or your local Alumni chapter!
